Example of my leadership experience in which I have positively influenced others and helped resolve

This is how korfball and goal looked like. There is no backboard, therefore, every shot needs to be nothing but net.

When I was in 5th grade, YTPS established a korfball team. Because I was the tallest person in 5th grade and I could run really rapidly, the coach invited me to join the korfball team. At first, I was one of the important first team players, and my job was to grab as many rebounds as I could. Although I was not the captain, I still enjoy playing korfball because this sport requires corporation between men and women. I really learned a lot from playing korfball such as communication skills, critical thinking, and how to be calm during the game etc.

When I became a junior high student, I continued to study at YTPS. Thus, I could stay in the korfball team for three more years. This time, the coach commanded me to be the captain of the team. In the beginning, I could not believe that I can be the team captain, and I was scared that I may not fulfill the coach’s expectation toward me. However, the coach’s decision was extremely clear, and her decision influenced my whole korfball career.

This is me! Such a handsome man~ XD

In our korfball team, I was not the best player. Nevertheless, I was a people person, and I got along well with every teammate. Sometimes, they would have some conflicts due to different opinions or some teammates think others are eyesore. When this happened in our team, I would try my best to solve their conflicts, and the best way to solve the problem is, be as positive as I could. My teammates always called me “King Smile.” I told them that although I am not the best player, I can still make good use of my smile to influence my teammates. For example, when I was in 9th grade, I had my last korfball game in my career, and it was the final. In the first half, we were behind, and most of our teammates were impatient during halftime. We had five straight wins, and we finally made it to the final. No one wanted to give up. Therefore, I know it is time for me to stand up. I told everyone, “This is our last game; we need to play harder, play our temple, play smart and calm down. We have a strong lineup. Give up is not our choice. Let’s do it and earn our championship!” At that moment, I did not know would my words influence my teammates or not. However, we played extremely awesome in the second half. We were calm and did not make any mistakes. Finally, we earned the championship, and it is our korfball team’s first championship. It really meant a lot to us, and I know that my positive attitude and words influenced every teammate.

In conclusion, becoming the leader of our korfball team was an enormous challenge for me. However, I learned a lot from being a leader, and I enjoy the process and pressures that I was facing. I appreciate my coach because she gave me this chance to lead the team, and I was glad that I did not let her down.
