Book Report: Burger Wuss by M.T. Anderson
“Burger Wuss,” a funny and hilarious book written by M.T. Anderson. The title “Wuss” indicates the main character of the book, Anthony. Now, before I start writing the book summary, I will briefly describe the characters in “Burger Wuss.” Let’s get the ball rolling!
Anthony, the first character plays the most important role in the story. Anthony is a wuss, and his girlfriend was stolen by a guy named Turner. Anthony was extremely angry and always wanted to get revenge in the story. Next, there is Turner. As I mention earlier, Turner stole Anthony’s girlfriend at a party. In the story, Turner seemed to be handsome, trustworthy, and is an expert at flirting with girls. After that, Anthony’s ex-girlfriend named Diana and Turner’s girlfriend Stacey are both not loyal to their boyfriends. They both did something that should not be forgiven by the boys. Also, Shunt is the chief of O’Dermott’s, which is the fast food restaurant where Turner and Anthony worked. Shunt was the person who helped Anthony to come out with the revenge plan. Last but not least, Mike is the boss of O’Dermott’s. He loved Turner very much and always thinks that Turner is the star employee. However, Mike was usually angry at Anthony because he thinks Anthony is stupid and got into trouble all the time.
After the description of the characters, let us concentrate on the books' summary! At the beginning of the story, Anthony just had an interview with Mike because Anthony “wants” to work in O’Dermott’s. However, the truth is, Anthony is there for revenge. He told himself that he needs to stand up for himself because there is no more Mr. Nice Guy. He did not really like the job because he thinks working in a fast food restaurant is ridiculous, but he need to be patient. As Anthony worked in the restaurant, he met the chief, Shunt. After they became more familiar with each other, Anthony started to ask Shunt to help him with the revenge plan. Shunt agrees, and they started the revenge plan. As everything seemed to be perfectly right for them, here comes more troubles and conflicts…
As I mentioned in the second paragraph, Turner stole Anthony’s girlfriend. Turner was still teasing Anthony. He always called Anthony “little miss wussy,” and he embarrassed Anthony in front of some women customers. What's even worse, was every time when Turner did something wrong, and Anthony thought it would be an awesome chance to tell Mike about that, Mike always believed in the “model employee of O’Dermott’s.” Instead of getting angry at Turner, he would blame Anthony and told him to stop being so childish. This made Anthony suffer every time and make his revenge plan go on forever.
Although Anthony’s revenge plan did not work out every time, he never gives up because he always remember the moment when Turner and Diana were half naked and touching each other. There is an old saying that goes, “Your efforts will eventually pay off.” Finally, Anthony found out the best revenge plan: steal Turner’s girlfriend, Stacey. Anthony first met Stacey at a baseball game between O’Dermott’s and Burger Queen, which is the arch-rival of O'Dermott's. Anthony and the other O’Dermott’s crew members were all shocked because Turner barely brought his girlfriend to public places. After the baseball ended, Anthony realized that he could do the same thing as Turner did to Diana, and he was ready for the challenge.
After a few weeks, they had an enormous and crazy party. Shunt, Diana, Turner, Stacey, and Anthony all came to the party. At that time, Turner was playing and eating around with others and sometimes chatting happily with some sexy girls. He left Stacey behind and let her stand by the side phubbing. Anthony thought this is a great chance to talk to Stacey. Therefore, Anthony walked beside Stacey and started flirting with her. As Turner heading back to look for Stacey, Stacey told Turner, “Anthony is more interesting than you, man.” However, Turner did not take it seriously. He laughed and called Anthony “little miss wussy” again and went straight back to the party.
As Anthony and Stacey talked more, they really had some feelings towards each other, and Anthony knew that he was heading in the right direction. He feels he is going to make the revenge plan come true. He thought to himself, “Turner, you hurt me by dating with my girlfriend, now, here is my revenge to you!” When Anthony was on Stacey’s body, suddenly, Anthony’s mind changed. He started to think that, actually, this is not a revenge at all. He is just doing what Turner is doing to his girlfriend. This is not a revenge. He realized that he lost Diana at the time when Turner was dating with her. He cannot change the result, and he lost the game between him and Turner. Then, he went back home, and Stacey was still confused of what Anthony was doing. He was extremely sad; however, he finally understood the truth that the revenge never existed, and he loved Diana too much. That is why he came up with such a stupid and useless revenge plan.
Finally, Turner and Stacey broke up. Both couples did not last forever. Also, Diana said to Anthony “You this idiot!” made Anthony totally give up on Diana. Both couples did not have a happy ending. Nevertheless, Anthony did learn two important lessons: stop being control by your emotions, and be strong enough to face the truth.
In my view, I really recommend “Burger Wuss” to every teenager because this book is about a teenage love story and the teenager’s way of thinking. From this book, we can see how Anthony starts his revenge plan and ends up like the plan never existed. Teenagers will definitely love this book, and some parts of the story are extremely interesting too! The book will make people laugh out loud for sure. Therefore, just buy “Burger Wuss” and the book will not let you down!
